October 14th, 2015effective communications

When I was a young man in the Marine Corps, I was assigned to a communications company training school called Company B. Their motto was: “The Key to Victory in Battle is Effective Communications!” For those of you who are part of the DVD ministry, we are yet unable to send out the DVDs because of an antiquated computer. We are in the process of replacing it, but until then I am communicating my inability to communicate via DVD.

Technology can really enhance our ability to communicate, but if a cell phone tower goes down because of weather it can freeze us in place. People do not seem to be able to function without a Smartphone. When our phones are not operational, we are not only disconnected, but disquieted, distraught, discombobulated, disturbed, disconcerted, and a lot of other ‘dis-es’.

Are you not glad your access to God is not based on the limitations of human technology? You can be anywhere on the planet, in any kind of weather, regardless of political, geographical, economic, or cultural realities. It does not matter what your educational level is, or your ethnicity, or how many gigabytes you own, to have access to God. There is a limiting human factor which does interfere with our communication though. You and I with unresolved sin can sever the line of communication to our God.

Isaiah 59:1 “Behold, the LORD’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”

Our sin is our limiting factor in communicating with God.

James 4:2 “Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”

When our phones go down we seek to get help from the phone company. How is your communication with God? Has something in your life come between you and Him? He is always ready for restored communications. In God’s repair manual, the instruction to restore communication with God is as simple as this:

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

May God help us to stay in close fellowship (communication) with Him every day.

I went to Canada two weeks ago with a group of guys from our church. We went far enough north so our Smart phones were dumb – no news, no phone calls, no internet, no e-mail, no texting. My phone was reduced to a camera and was used mostly to access my loaded Bible software. It was great! Want to see what I and my phone camera caught???
