No, I did not drop off the edge of the earth. Besides that, the earth is not flat but a sphere as the Scripture teaches us:

Isaiah 40: 21 “Have ye not known? have ye not heard? Hath it not been told you from the beginning? Have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? 22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, And the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; That stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, And spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:”

Like a grasshopper, I have been hopping from one thing to another: Two weeks of Bible camp, one week as a counselor with seven junior boys, and another week as a camper (Shepherds camp in Canada), and then jumping right into a week of vacation Bible school. I have finally had time to breathe and start getting caught up on much needed correspondence and some study time. Having said this, I will be back on a more regular schedule getting my little meditation out.

In the middle of all the busyness, I was able to have some fun. I caught 22 small mouth bass at Shepherds camp and won the contest for the most bass caught in one day. Our church also had a fishing contest as a fundraiser fun event for Camp Haven (North of Kenora Canada) this past Saturday and my boat won the weight catching contest for catching over 11 pounds of fish from 8:00 am. to 12 noon.

My greatest joy though, is fishing for men. I prayerfully throw out the gospel line and pray God well net them, clean them and keep them for all eternity.

Matthew 4: 18 “And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

I pray everyone who receives this has already been caught and is ready for eternity. There is no greater joy than to be God’s child and know it.

1 John 5: 9 “If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

Fishermen like to dream of the big catch. For me, I think of two fish I would love to catch and mount as trophies. One is a 30-inch walleye, and the other is a 40-inch northern pike. I am 59 years old and have been fishing since my dad taught me as a little kid and I have still not caught my dream fish. But I have a greater vision for a greater catch. My hope and prayer is that God would use me and my brothers and sisters in Christ to share Jesus with as many people as possible and that God would do His work to bring his lost sheep home.

Luke 15: And he spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

Praying this is finding you well,

Only Because of the Great Fisherman,

Pastor John Schofield
